    I think he is dead and Travis is schizophrenic.

    When they were at the restaurant only travis' ate food and the waitress didn't even react when Gellar touched her when she was tied up. She only looked at travis just like she did at the restaurant.

    It doesn't make sense. If you remember in the last episode he take the girl from the bed (the waitress) and then he even touch her. So I think that he is very real.

    Of course he's real. He's got a website "the beginning of the end", "a chronicle of the end of days by Dr James Gellar" with a photo of him.

    live sin travis mind, its like a super dark passanger, travis do things, as travis, n as gellar, if u c on "A horse of different color", dexter says that there are two killer, cuz travis has double personality, travis n gellar are the sam person, so travis don't think that he tied the girl, when travis saw the gil, the girl was afraid of travis, n never look at the geller..

    I agree the Prof is probably dead. Like Tiuke and Anonymous commented Travis has a- split personality/Schizoid. Travis could easily take over the website for Gellar after his death. Dex concluded the 4 horsemens death was done by a different person, hence, Travis personality (Gellar) took over? I enjoy the mystery!

    Maybe he is both, alive and his dark passenger. The REAL Gellar could be in hiding or something. But I have checked the last episode and the statement that Gellar is in fact Travis dark passenger isn't that stupid. But who knows (the cast and crew...) But at least this season is better then season 5=P

    Dear uneducated people of the world- schitsophrenia and multipule personality disorder are VERY different. He is NOT schitophrenic, nor is Gellar an extention of his id, or some kind of conscience like Harry is to Dexter. This theory is idiodic, and the writers have already had a good laugh at it and debunked it.

    What are you best buddies with the writers, and you know that this isn't the case? Why is it idiodic? He seems to never be noticed when around other people with Travis. My theory is he either killed the professor after obsessing with his theories, or was being mentored by him, then he died and now Travis is taking over and relaying his message in extreme, crazy ways.

    Well to anyone who is saying that "Gellar has to be real because he is seen doing things" I argue that you don't have a very strong case. I mean have you ever seen Fight Club? Edward Norton sees Tyler Durdan doing things like driving, fighting, talking to everyone, having sex, etc. the part that really had me was when Gellar burned his arm, umm acid in fight club anyone? I won't be the least bit surprised if we see later on that travis has a huge burn on his arm) and he was never real. Also as many others have pointed Travis seems to be the only frickin person who ever acknowledges Gellar! This right here is a big red flag for me, obviously Gellar was real at one point, but that doesn't mean that he hasn't since died ( I suspect travis killed him). I am just going to be really pissed if this is supposed to be the big shock that is revealed at the end of the season.

    Anyone who has seen Fight Club knows there are very, very big differences between the two. I'm sorry but after the angel of death episode you should know that this theory is indeed BS.

    Professor Gellar is a spin on the "dark passenger" idea, except that Gellar, in a warped sense, represents the "light."
