Matthew William Joins the Cast of Dexter: Original Sin—Could He Be Playing a Young Thomas Matthews?

A new casting addition to the Dexter prequel that premieres in December.

Actor Matthew William has joined the cast of Dexter: Original Sin. According to his IMDb profile, the 44-year-old, who recently appeared in CBS's Elsbeth, will be portraying a 'Miami Metro Police Officer'.

However, given his likeness to the character, it's possible that William might be actually playing a younger version of one of the most compelling figures from the original Dexter series—Thomas Matthews, originally portrayed by Geoff Pierson.

The image above highlights the strong resemblance between the two actors.

Although there's no official confirmation yet, speculation is strong, especially since Matthews' name appeared in early spring leaks about returning characters for the Dexter prequel. So far, he's the only Miami Metro character whose casting remains unconfirmed (apart from Doakes, who has been excluded from the first season since he wasn't part of Miami Metro P.D. at that time). A few weeks ago, we confirmed here on Dexter Daily that actress Sarah Kinsey will portray a younger version of Camilla Figg.

Thomas Matthews was an iconic figure at Miami Metro P.D. during the show's original run, known for his arrogance and sarcastic interactions with Maria LaGuerta.

Beyond being a colleague, Matthews was also a close friend of Dexter's adoptive father, Harry. Over the years, many fans have theorized that Matthews might have known about Dexter's true identity. Dexter: Original Sin might finally provide some answers.

It's important to emphasize that this remains speculative. While Matthew William might simply be playing a regular Miami Metro officer, it's also possible that those who added his name to the IMDb credits intentionally kept his true role under wraps, waiting for an official announcement.

Only time will tell if Matthew William is indeed portraying a young Thomas Matthews.
