Who Should Serve as a 'Ghost' for Dex in Dexter: Resurrection: Harry, Debra, or Brian? (Poll)

Who would you like to see as Dexter's subconscious in the new sequel series?

Dexter: Resurrection, the eagerly anticipated third spinoff in the Dexter franchise, is officially in the works, with filming set to begin in January. So far, Michael C. Hall is the only confirmed cast member returning for the series, which will pick up right where Dexter: New Blood left off. More casting announcements are expected soon, likely starting in late November.

Last week, we shared a major spoiler here on Dexter Daily that all but confirms Dexter Morgan is indeed alive, and a crossover is in the works. In case you missed it, you can catch up here.

By the end of the second season of the original Dexter series, which ran from 2006 to 2013, the show's backstory with flashbacks of the Morgans seemed to reach its limit. As a result, the writers made the decision to keep James Remar in the cast by having Harry Morgan appear as Dexter's subconscious or a ghost throughout the rest of the show.

This choice fit the series' narrative, as Harry served as Dexter's "voice of reason," helping viewers see his rational side. Harry's presence was briefly interrupted in Season 6, when Dexter spiraled out of control and was instead guided by his brother Brian, appearing as a ghost during Dexter’s episodic road trip in the controversial episode, "Nebraska." In this episode, Brian represented Dexter's dark passenger, leading him to make a series of reckless decisions.

In Dexter: New Blood, the limited series that aired from November 2021 to January 2022, Debra Morgan took on the role Harry once held. After Dexter "let go" of Harry in the penultimate episode of the original series, Deb returned as his inner voice. According to Jennifer Carpenter in a summer 2021 interview, Deb in New Blood was an "echo" or "inconvenient truth" for Dexter, but functioned in a similar way to Harry and Brian.

So, what can we expect from Dexter: Resurrection? As of now, there is no news on whether James Remar, Jennifer Carpenter, or Christian Camargo will reprise their roles for this new installment. If you could choose, which character would you like to see as the "ghost" or Dexter's subconscious in Resurrection? Cast your vote in our poll below and/or on Instagram!
