Patrick Gibson's Slip and Fall Caught on Camera During Dexter: Original Sin Episode 6 Filming

The star of Dexter: Original Sin experienced a minor mishap while filming "The Joy of Killing".

We’ve officially crossed the midway point of Dexter: Original Sin as we dive into Episode 6, titled “The Joy of Killing.” This pivotal episode marks a turning point for 20-year-old Dexter Morgan, who carries out his third official kill, earning him the chilling title of "serial killer."

While the episode focuses on Dexter’s dark transformation, it also delivers plenty of humor and awkward moments as young Dexter struggles to fit in. One standout scene? The double date with Sofia, Debra, and Gio, where Dexter's social awkwardness takes center stage.

Debra's Strictness and Dexter’s Wardrobe Woes

Early in the episode, Deb is particularly strict with her brother, warning him not to embarrass her in front of Gio during their double date. This dynamic leads to a hilarious moment when Deb interrupts Dexter’s morning routine—bursting into his room, picking out his clothes, and ordering him to wear them.

But what fans may not know is that filming this scene came with its own comical mishap.

Patrick Gibson’s On-Set Blooper

While shooting the sequence at the Morgans’ house set at CBS Radford Studios, actor Patrick Gibson (young Dexter) slipped while rushing from the bathroom to his bedroom. Wearing socks on a smooth floor, Gibson lost his footing, slammed his knee into the door, and hit the floor hard. Thankfully, he wasn’t injured.

The bathroom’s fixed camera captured the entire blooper, much to the amusement of the cast and crew. According to Gibson, everyone—including himself—rewatched the hilarious footage and had a good laugh. You can check out the video below, as shared by young Deb actress, Molly Brown!

Molly Brown talked about the incident on Dexter: Final Cut

During Episode 5 of Dexter: Final Cut, the official aftershow hosted by Jamie Chung, Molly Brown shared more details about the on-set blooper:

“My favorite behind-the-scenes moment happened while filming Episode 6. I ask Dexter to go on a double date, and I’m rummaging through his closet to find him something to wear. Patrick darts into the room to follow me, but he slips, falls, and slams his knee into the door. It was so funny—like, I laughed so hard! The set medic even rushed in, asking if he was doing a stunt. Nope, just walking!”

Will Showtime Release a Blooper Reel?

Longtime fans of Dexter know the franchise has a history of skipping blooper reels in its DVD and Blu-ray extras—a major disappointment for those who love behind-the-scenes content. Hopefully, Showtime changes that with Dexter: Original Sin. Fans are eager to see more moments like Patrick Gibson’s hilarious slip included in the official blooper reel.
