Isaac Gonzalez Rossi Shares Insights on Playing Gio in Dexter: Original Sin

The actor who played young Deb's boyfriend shared his experience working on the prequel.

It's been over a month since Dexter: Original Sin wrapped its first season, and the 10-episode run managed to win over even the most skeptical fans who initially doubted the idea of a Dexter prequel.

The series introduced a mix of familiar faces—portraying younger versions of beloved characters from the original Dexter—along with some intriguing new additions. Among them was Gio (Giorgio) Martino, played by Isaac Gonzalez Rossi, who appeared in five episodes as 17-year-old Deb’s boyfriend.

Throughout the season, Gio became the focus of intense fan speculation, deliberately fueled by the writers.

One of the most significant theories suggested that he was the son of Hector Estrada and that his relationship with Deb was part of a revenge plot against Harry. As it turned out, this theory was true, but Gio ultimately served as a red herring.

Despite his character’s less-than-honorable intentions, Rossi left a lasting impression on fans with his charismatic and compelling performance.

Isaac Gonzalez Rossi Talks About His Dexter: Original Sin Experience

In a recent interview on Mario Busto and Zachary Newton’s Story Archives podcast, Rossi reflected on his experience working on Dexter: Original Sin from June to October 2024. He described the series as the biggest project of his career so far.

On the magnitude of the show:

"That’s a more... was pretty big in a smaller degree. But Dexter is just a huge show. It has a massive fan base, so much hype, and an incredible cast—Christian Slater, Patrick Dempsey, Sarah Michelle Gellar. Patrick Gibson plays Dexter, and Molly Brown plays Deb. It’s a lot of talented people."

On the cast and their rising careers:

"Patrick Gibson is known for The OA. Molly Brown has been working for about eight years, and this is her biggest role yet. I don’t want to speak for her, but playing Deb is a huge milestone in her career."

On his personal growth from the role:

"This is my biggest role in terms of length and exposure. I learned so much—what it’s like to work in television, the challenges and joys of being part of a season-long project, and the importance of balancing creative liberties within a structured role."

On working with the show’s directors:

"We had two incredible directors for the entire season: Michael Lehman, who directed Heathers back in the ’80s, and Monica Raymund, who is also an actress. They had very different styles but shared the same goal—creating an environment where actors could perform at their best."

Rossi’s reflections provide fascinating insight into what it was like working on Dexter: Original Sin. With a stellar cast and compelling storytelling, the series has undoubtedly left a mark on the Dexter universe, and fans are eager to see what’s next, with a potential Season 2 announcement.
