An updated list of all the returning actors and characters in the highly anticipated sequel so far.
The highly anticipated sequel series, Dexter: Resurrection, which picks up after the events of Dexter: New Blood, is now eleven weeks into production. Set in a brand-new location—New York City—fans are eager to see what’s next for America’s favorite serial killer. While plot details remain tightly under wraps, recent set photos have given audiences a glimpse of both new and returning characters joining this latest installment in the Dexter franchise.
Star-Studded Cast: New & Familiar Faces
Since the announcement of Dexter: Resurrection, more than ten actors have been confirmed to join the cast, including several well-known Hollywood stars. This impressive roster has taken fans by surprise, but their involvement only adds to the anticipation.
However, despite the many casting announcements, few returning actors from Miami Metro P.D. have been revealed—something that remains a point of interest, particularly for long-time Dexter fans.
Jennifer Carpenter Confirms Her Absence
One major piece of news that disappointed many fans is Jennifer Carpenter’s confirmation that she will not be involved in Dexter: Resurrection. The actress, who portrayed Debra Morgan, has openly expressed her desire to move on from the franchise, despite speculation suggesting she might make a brief appearance. For now, it appears her character will not be returning.
Confirmed Returning Characters
While speculation continues, here’s a list of six returning characters confirmed for Dexter: Resurrection so far:
1. Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall)
He’s back. Despite what transpired in the Dexter: New Blood finale, Michael C. Hall will reprise his iconic role as Dexter Morgan in Dexter: Resurrection.
2. Angel Batista (David Zayas)
One of the most beloved characters in the franchise, Batista is returning as a series regular. Following his brief appearances in Dexter: New Blood, he was recently spotted on set in Times Square. [See the images here.]
3. Harry Morgan (James Remar)
After being completely absent from Dexter: New Blood, Harry Morgan is making a return. James Remar, who played Dexter’s late father and moral guide from Seasons 3–8 of the original series, was recently seen filming alongside Michael C. Hall in Manhattan. [Check out the images.]
4. Harrison Morgan (Jack Alcott)
One of the most controversial characters in Dexter history is making a comeback. Harrison Morgan, played by Jack Alcott, returns as a series regular. He has been spotted multiple times on set in NYC filming key scenes.
5. Arthur Mitchell (John Lithgow)
In a surprising turn of events, Arthur Mitchell—better known as the Trinity Killer—is set to return for a brief appearance in Dexter: Resurrection. John Lithgow revealed the news during an interview with Variety, sharing more details about his comeback. [Read more here.]
Lithgow, who delivered an unforgettable performance as Dexter’s most formidable adversary in Season 4 (2009), also made a brief return in Dexter: New Blood during a memory sequence involving Harrison.
6. Teddy Reed (David Magidoff)
The latest confirmed returning character is Teddy Reed. Played by David Magidoff, Teddy appeared throughout Dexter: New Blood as an officer in Iron Lake P.D. While details about his role in Dexter: Resurrection remain unknown, reports suggest he will appear in multiple episodes.
A Surprising Absence
One character whose return has yet to be confirmed—much to fans’ surprise—is Angela Bishop, played by Julia Jones. Given her significant role in Dexter: New Blood, it seems unlikely that she won’t be involved in Dexter: Resurrection. Some fans have even questioned why Teddy Reed’s return was announced before Angela’s.
