Before Uma Thurman was officially cast, another actress was strongly considered for the role.
A new week on the set of Dexter: Resurrection has begun, as production for the highly anticipated continuation of Dexter Morgan's story continues in New York City. Now five episodes into filming, fans are eagerly awaiting a teaser—or even a full trailer—but as of now, Showtime has yet to release any official footage.
The casting lineup for Dexter: Resurrection is nothing short of impressive, featuring several A-list actors. One of the biggest names attached to the project is Golden Globe-winning actress Uma Thurman, who is set to appear in all ten episodes of Season 1.
According to the official character description, Thurman will play Charley, the "Head of Security" for mysterious billionaire Leon Prater. A former Special Ops officer, Charley has worked in various high-level private security roles before becoming Prater’s resourceful and meticulous right-hand woman.
Thurman's casting came after weeks of speculation, with rumors swirling about her potential involvement in the Dexter sequel. The speculation proved true, and the legendary actress—best known for her iconic performances in Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2, directed by Quentin Tarantino—was officially announced as part of the Dexter saga.
Gillian Anderson Was Nearly Cast as Charley
What many fans don’t know is that before Thurman secured the role, another well-known actress, Gillian Anderson, was strongly considered. The two actresses are close in age—Thurman is just two years younger—and share a similar appearance, both being fair-skinned blondes.
Anderson, a veteran of television with a career spanning over three decades, auditioned for the role of Charley last year. If you've been following Dexter Daily, you might recall that her name was mentioned alongside Peter Dinklage in casting rumors back in mid-November. While Dinklage ultimately landed a role in Dexter: Resurrection, Anderson lost out to Thurman.
What Other Actors Were Considered?
With Dexter: Resurrection attracting a star-studded cast, it's intriguing to think about which other well-known actors auditioned but didn’t make the final cut. While most of that information remains under wraps, we now know at least one name—Gillian Anderson—who came close to joining the Dexter universe.
